Mexico: Women Press Freedom Condemns Police Brutality Against Journalists at Xochimilco Human Rights Protest

September 9, 2024 - Mexico, Mexico City

Women Press Freedom condemns the police brutality towards journalists and activists during a human rights protest in Xochimilco. This is a grave infringement on press freedom and safety.

Journalists Penélope Estefanía Galicia Argumedo and Elizabeth Díaz were detained for several hours before their eventual release.

We call for transparency, accountability, and enhanced protection.
