Iran: Women Press Freedom Urges Medical Care and Release for Sarunaz Ahmad Amidst Strike Over Healthcare Denial

September 8, 2024 - Iran, Tehran

Women Press Freedom expresses solidarity with Sarunaz Ahmad, who has initiated a strike — by stopping her anxiety medication and refusing health care — at Evin Prison to protest the denial of a medical examination.

The refusal to provide basic healthcare to imprisoned women journalists is a severe human rights violation.

We strongly condemn this and demand immediate medical attention for Ahmad, along with her prompt release with full exoneration.
