Pakistan: Women Press Freedom Calls for Apology as Gharida Farooqi Faces Harassment Following KP CM’s Sexist Comments

September 8, 2024 - Pakistan, Islamabad

Women Press Freedom strongly condemns the vile abuse directed at Gharida Farooqi after she criticized the sexist and derogatory remarks made by KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur, which specifically targeted women journalists.

The offensive language used by Gandapur during a party event is a direct assault on the dignity and safety of journalists, both personally and professionally.

Although Gandapur did not mention Farooqi by name, his disgraceful rhetoric incited a wave of online harassment against her.

We call on Gandapur to issue an immediate apology for his degrading comments. No woman journalist should ever be subjected to gender-based attacks or sexual objectification for performing their job with integrity.
