Peru: Police Detain Journalist Fátima Constantino in Excessive Show of Force

January 28, 2025 - Peru, Chiclayo

Five police officers detained Exitosa Noticias's Fátima Constantino while she was reporting on traffic chaos in Chiclayo. Despite showing her press credentials, she was taken to a police station in an excessive show of force.

Women Press Freedom denounces this abuse of authority & intimidation against the press. While crime surges in the region, police resources were misused to silence journalism. Arbitrary detentions such as this not only violate press freedom but also create a climate of fear that discourages journalists from reporting on issues affecting the public.

We demand accountability from officers involved.
