Brazil: Police Officer Removed After Threatening Journalist Natuza Nery with 'Annihilation'

December 30, 2024 - Brazil, Sao Paulo

Women Press Freedom strongly condemns the attack on journalist Natuza Nery in a São Paulo supermarket. A civil police officer threatened her, saying she "deserves to be annihilated," while subjecting her to verbal abuse.

Nery, known for her incisive political analysis and reporting on government corruption, has faced repeated targeting for her journalism.

The officer, identified by the press, has been removed from duty.

We demand a thorough investigation and legal action. Intimidation of journalists must never be tolerated. Protecting press freedom starts with accountability.
