Venezuela: Community Reporting Halted, Pableysa Ostos Blocked from Investigating Poor School Conditions

October 9, 2024 - Venezuela, San Félix

La Patilla journalist Pableysa Ostos and others were blocked from reporting on a school in Bolívar while investigating parents' complaints about poor conditions. Deputy director demanded authorization from state education authorities and had security film the reporters. Press conference they requested was later canceled without explanation.

Women Press Freedom denounces this as an unacceptable obstruction of the public's right to know. Press must be free to report on matters of community interest without impediment.
