Kyrgyzstan: Makhabat Tazhibek kyzy Sentenced, Aika Beyshekeeva on Probation - WPF Denounces

October 10, 2024 - Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek

Makhabat Tazhibek kyzy sentenced to 6 years for allegedly inciting mass unrest through her investigative work at Temirov Live. Despite no credible evidence, prosecutors pushed for harsh sentences in what’s seen as retaliation for reporting on government corruption.

Her colleague Aika Beyshekeeva received 3 years probation, while others were acquitted due to lack of evidence.

Women Press Freedom condemns these politically motivated charges and calls for the immediate release of all unjustly jailed journalists.
