United States: Trump Campaign Revokes Election Night Credentials for Journalists Including Political Correspondent Tara Palmeri

November 6, 2024 - United States, Florida, West Palm Beach

Women Press Freedom vehemently condemns the arbitrary denial of credentials to several journalists, including political correspondent Tara Palmeri, at former President Donald Trump's election night event in West Palm Beach, Florida. This arbitrary action exemplifies a troubling trend of retaliatory measures against the press for their reporting, which undermines the vital role of journalists in a democratic society.

The arbitrary revocation of credentials, particularly targeting reporters from Politico, Axios, Puck, Voice of America, and Mother Jones, is a blatant violation of press freedom.

During his victory speech, Trump issued yet another disturbing threat to the press, underscoring his disregard for journalistic freedom and transparency.

Women Press Freedom's comprehensive pre-election report indicates that a second Trump presidency would result in unprecedented suppression of journalists, jeopardizing the integrity of press freedom.

We stand in solidarity with the affected journalists and call on the Trump campaign and all political entities to respect press freedom and ensure journalists can perform their essential duties without impediments or fear of retribution. Such actions not only obstruct the flow of accurate information but also threaten the principles of transparency and accountability that are fundamental to democracy.
