Ukraine: Locals Threaten Elmira Shahabutdynova, Obstruct Her From Covering Shelling Site

September 29, 2024 - Ukraine, Zaporizhzhia

Journalist Elmira Shahabutdynova faced harassment while covering the aftermath of Russian shelling in Zaporizhzhia on September 29, 2024.

Locals blocked her from taking photos, hurling insults and threats, even blaming journalists for provoking Russian attacks. She ended up needing police support to continue her work.

Women Press Freedom condemns hostility against journalists covering such critical events. Their swift documentation is vital for recording evidence of possible war crimes. They must be able to work without fear or intimidation
