Turkiye: Şule Aydın’s Home Defaced Following Threats from Far-Right Leader

October 11, 2024 - Turkiye, Istanbul

Şule Aydın’s apartment was vandalized with threats of sexual violence, marking a frightening escalation of the intimidation she’s faced.

Last week she and other journalists were sent a dangerous warning from a far-right party leader, who told them to "watch their step" for their reporting on the Sinan Ateş murder.

Vandalism at her home shows how political attacks on the press can escalate to physical targeting—no journalist should live in fear or face harassment, especially in their own home.

Women Press Freedom condemns this act and demands authorities investigate those targeting Şule and ensure her protection.
