September 19, 2024 - Turkiye, Ankara

Journalists Sibel Yükler, Deniz Nazlım, and Yıldız Tar are on trial for protesting the unjust detentions of 16 Kurdish journalists in Ankara in 2022. They face charges under the restrictive "Law on Meetings and Demonstrations."

Their defense revealed in court that police violence during the protest was intentionally not recorded. Next hearing on Jan 7, 2025.

Criminalizing journalism and peaceful protest is an attack on press freedom and democracy. Women Press Freedom demands all charges against the journalists be dropped.
