Turkiye: Political Leader Threatens Şule Aydın and Others for Reporting on Murder

October 1, 2024 - Turkiye

Women Press Freedom vehemently condemns Nationalist Movement Party leader Devlet Bahçeli's threats against Halk TV and 4 journalists, including Şule Aydın.

Labeling them "clown reporters" and warning them to "watch their step" while covering the Sinan Ateş murder case is a direct attack on press freedom.

Such dangerous rhetoric from political leaders has historically led to physical attacks on journalists in Turkiye.

Bahçeli's words are irresponsible and must be retracted. The press should be free to report on issues of public interest without fear of retaliation.
