Russia: Zalina Marshenkulova Labeled a 'Foreign Agent'; Multiple Journalists Fined

September 6, 2024 - Russia

The Kremlin's relentless crackdown on independent journalists continues as exiled journalist and feminist activist Zalina Marshenkulova is added to its 'foreign agents' list for supporting LGBTI rights, fundraising for Ukraine, and attending events organized by so-called 'undesirable organizations.'

Several other journalists, including Tuyara Innokentyeva, Aida Ivanova, and Valeria Ratnikova, have faced fines for non-compliance with stringent "foreign agent" regulations.

This label serves as a tool of repression against those speaking truth to power. Women Press Freedom demands that Russia repeal this unjust designation and cease targeting critical voices.
