Russia: FSB Opens 2 More Criminal Cases Against Foreign Journalists

August 27, 2024 - Russia, Moscow

State security (FSB) opens two more criminal cases against foreign journalists, Natalya Nahorna of 1+1 and Niklas Connolly of Deutsche Welle, for reporting from Ukrainian-controlled Sudzha. They join five other reporters bogusly charged with illegal border crossing after covering Ukrainian military incursion into Russia.

Women Press Freedom condemns the Kremlin's ongoing attempts to intimidate war correspondents with baseless investigations. Charges must be dropped; the press must be free to cover the conflict without Moscow's interference.
