Portugal: WPF Demands Accountability After Assault on Beatriz Henriques Ferreira

September 14, 2024 - Portugal, Fundão

President of Barroca Parish Council assaults CMTV journalists Beatriz Henriques Ferreira and João Beirão while they reported on forest fire in Fundão. He punched Ferreira in the neck and pushed Beirão into his camera. Journalists are pursuing legal action.

Violence against the press is unacceptable, and it is especially alarming when committed by a public official. Women Press Freedom strongly condemns these attacks, supports the journalists' decision to seek justice, and calls on authorities to hold the perpetrator accountable.
