Mexico: Police Officers Threaten Norma Galarza Flores After Investigation Exposes Their Crimes

November 22, 2024 - Mexico, Zacatecas

Police officers threatened journalist Norma Galarza Flores in Zacatecas after she exposed their alleged involvement in the abduction and attack of two young men. Within hours of publishing her investigation, Galarza received threats from the involved officers, warning of physical harm. She has filed a formal complaint with the Special Investigation Unit for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders.

In Mexico, journalists are regularly threatened, harassed, and attacked for reporting on corruption, organized crime, and other sensitive issues. As the most dangerous country for journalists, threats of violence against reporters are especially concerning.

Women Press Freedom condemns the intimidation of Galarza and urges authorities to take swift action, hold those responsible accountable, and provide her with immediate protection to ensure her safety.
