Malaysia: Legal Persecution of Clare Rewcastle Brown Continues, Her Appeal Against Defamation Charge is Rejected

September 10, 2024 - Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur

Malaysia’s top court rejects British journalist Clare Rewcastle Brown’s appeal, upholding a defamation ruling related to her reporting on the 1MDB corruption scandal. She faces over $100K in damages.

This follows her February sentencing to 2 years in absentia on false charges.

Women Press Freedom condemns this ongoing injustice and harassment. Her convictions must be overturned on appeal. We urge the UK government to support Clare and demand an end to her persecution by Malaysian authorities.
