Afghanistan: Women Journalists' Suppression Continues in Taliban-led Afghanistan With Ban Imposed on Their Recruitment in Daikundi

September 18, 2024 - Afghanistan, Daikundi

Women Press Freedom unequivocally condemns the Taliban's egregious ban on women journalists in Daikundi province.

We have been rigorously monitoring Afghanistan’s alarming decline in press freedom, and actively working on the safety and protection of women journalists in the country, especially since the #FallofKabul in 2021, including evacuating a staggering 402 people, alongside women journalists.

The Taliban's latest move deepens the already stifling restrictions on press freedom, intensifying the threats faced by media outlets employing women. These systemic efforts to silence and erase women’s voices from the journalistic space represent a blatant violation of fundamental human rights.
