Ukraine: Alona Bereza Repeatedly Targeted with Bomb Threats

January 06, 2025 - Ukraine, Khmelnytskyi

Alona Bereza of ZHAR.INFO received emails threatening to bomb her editorial office. The sender, claiming ties to Hamas, also targeted other sites across Ukraine. Police found no evidence of explosives but are investigating under Article 259 (false threat reports).

This isn't the first attack—ZHAR.INFO faced similar bomb threats in December 2024, as did other media outlets nationwide. Intimidation tactics like these aim to silence independent journalism.

Women Press Freedom denounces targeting of Bereza and independent outlets in Ukraine. Authorities must take urgent action to protect journalists and hold perpetrators accountable.
