Russia: WPF Demands Authorities Drop ‘Illegal’ Border Crossing Charges Against Kathryn Diss and All Journalists

September 27, 2024 - Russia

Women Press Freedom urges Russia to drop charges against Australian Broadcasting Corporation journalists Kathryn Diss, Fletcher Yeung, and Romanian freelancer Mircea Barbu, accused of "illegally" crossing from Ukraine into Russia.

These charges, part of a broader crackdown on international journalists, aim to intimidate the press and restrict coverage of the Russia-Ukraine war.

Since August 17, 12 foreign journalists have faced similar charges, including reporters from CNN, Deutsche Welle, and RAI. Journalism is not a crime—Russia must stop treating it as one.
