Russia: Galina Timchenko Joins Growing List of Exiled Journalists Targeted Under Russia’s 'Foreign Agent' Law

August 30, 2024 - Russia, Moscow

Authorities label Galina Timchenko, founder of independent news site Meduza, as a “foreign agent,” accusing her of opposing Russia’s military actions in Ukraine and spreading "inaccurate information."

Timchenko joins a rising number of women journalists facing this unjust label. In 2024 alone, Women Press Freedom has documented 13 cases of exiled journalists targeted under the foreign agent law.

We condemn Russia's ongoing repression of exiled journalists and demand an end to this persecution.
