Mexico: Rosalinda Ortiz Ríos Accused of “Political Violence” After Criticizing Official

September 22, 2024 - Mexico, Jalisco

Women Press Freedom strongly denounces the intimidation of journalist Rosalinda Ortiz Ríos by Paula Ramírez, President of Jalisco's Electoral & Citizen Participation Institute.

After Ortiz criticized her appointment on X, Ramírez filed a complaint for "political violence based on gender," demanding the deletion of her comments.

In a democracy, the right to criticize public officials is fundamental. We stand with Rosalinda Ortiz Ríos and demands that Ramírez drop her complaint and respect the press's right to report and express themselves freely.
