Libya: Women Press Freedom Denounces Ikram Rajab’s Unlawful Detention

September 18, 2024 - Libya, Benghazi

Ikram Rajab (Ikram Al-Saiti) was detained by security forces in Benghazi after warning on Facebook that she was being followed. Armed forces later raided her family’s home, seizing belongings.

Her sudden detention and disappearance fueled rumors that she had been killed while in custody. Internal Security Service refuted these accusations claiming her arrest was ordered by the Public Prosecution, and she remains behind bars in good health. No charges against her have been disclosed.

Women Press Freedom condemns this unlawful detention and demands her immediate and unconditional release.
