Iran: Nobel Laureate Narges Mohammadi Admitted to Hospital Following Nearly Nine Weeks of Medical Care Denial

October 28, 2024 - Iran, Tehran

Women Press Freedom welcomes the essential hospitalization of Nobel Laureate Narges Mohammadi following nearly nine weeks of denied medical care. This critical step highlights the power of collective action and the unwavering commitment of advocates fighting for justice and human rights.

However, we condemn the continued violations of Mohammadi's rights and the inhumane treatment she has endured during her years of imprisonment and solitary confinement. The severe impact on her health demands not only immediate medical attention but also a comprehensive care plan that addresses the long-term consequences of the neglect she has faced.

We reiterate our unwavering demand for the unconditional release of Narges Mohammadi and insist on her full access to necessary medical care. A mere transfer to a hospital cannot remedy the serious health issues stemming from months of deprivation and neglect. We call on the international community to continue advocating for her rights and to hold those responsible for these violations accountable. Mohammadi's struggle is emblematic of a larger fight for freedom of expression and the rights of all women journalists and activists around the world.
