El Salvador: Masked Officers Target Mónica Rodríguez, Equipment Seized in Alarming Police Raid

December 4, 2024 - El Salvador, Zaragoza

On December 4, 2024, police raided the homes of journalists Mónica Rodríguez & Steve Magaña, known for their human rights work. Masked officers in unmarked vehicles seized their equipment, citing a vague warrant that didn’t name them.

The Attorney General’s Office refused to confirm charges or share case details.

Women Press Freedom denounces this targeting as an alarming misuse of police power against individuals working to inform the public and defend human rights. The police's aggressive raid violates Article 6 of the Constitution, which protects journalistic tools from confiscation. We demand full transparency from authorities and the immediate return of their equipment.
