Colombia: Women Press Freedom Condemns Discrediting Efforts and Racist Attacks Targeting Indigenous Reporter Sandra Chindoy

September 25, 2024 - Colombia, Bogotá

Women Press Freedom stands in solidarity with journalist Sandra Chindoy and vehemently denounces the despicable attacks and racist insults she has endured following her courageous reporting on corruption in the Carlos Galán mayor's office. The escalating threats against Chindoy, an indigenous trailblazer in Colombian television, are unacceptable and reflect a broader pattern of violence and discrimination against journalists. We condemn Councilor Daniel Briceño's attempt to discredit Chindoy and call for an immediate end to the hate speech and intimidation directed at her. Women Press Freedom affirms its unwavering support for Chindoy's journalistic integrity and right to report without fear, and we urge the authorities to take decisive action to protect her and uphold press freedom in Colombia.
