Armenia: MP Calls Knar Manukyan 'Scoundrel' and 'Disgusting', WPF Condemns Abuse

October 15, 2024 - Armenia, Yerevan

MP Hovik Aghazaryan verbally abused journalist Knar Manukyan, calling her a "scoundrel", "disgusting" and "worse than a Persian woman." His anger stemmed from dissatisfaction with an interview she published.

This is not isolated; such disrespect reflects a broader pattern of hostility toward the press in Armenia.

Women Press Freedom condemns this attempt to discredit and demean Manukyan and calls for MP Aghazaryan to publicly apologize. Lawmakers must respect the press, not attack it.
