On the 89th anniversary of the Peoples’ Houses, this year, nine women journalists were awarded the "Peoples’ Rights Press, Art and Solidarity Awards" over their stories they revealed about truth. Anayasa Mahkemesi (AYM), haber takibi yaparken polis şiddetine maruz kalan gazeteci Beyza Kural Yılancı’nın kötü muamele gördüğüne kanaat getirerek 15 bin TL manevi tazminat ödenmesine karar verdi. The Constitutional Court (AYM) ruled journalist Beyza Kural Yılancı, who was subjected to police violence while covering the demonstration, was mistreated and decided 15 thousand Turkish Liras (TL) in moral compensation. AYM also concluded that the journalist’s freedom of expression was violated. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) welcomes the court verdict. The first hearing of the case filed against Odatv Ankara News Director, Müyesser Yıldız, and TELE1 Ankara Representative İsmail Zeki Dükel, was held at the Ankara 26th High Criminal Court on Monday, November 9 2020. Non-commissioned officer Erdal Baran is implicated in the charges for allegedly leaking confidential information to the journalists. After hearing the defence statements presented by the accused media workers, the court decided to release Müyesser Yıldız pending her trial, with an imposed travel ban. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) believes that this decision should be reconsidered and demands Müyesser be acquitted of all charges.

Gazeteci Demet Aran, 14 Ekim 2020’de İşçi Sağlığı ve İşçi Güvenliği Meclisi’nin basın açıklamasını takip ederken polis şiddetine maruz kaldı. Gazeteci Aran, düzenlenen basın açıklamasına yönelik yapmak istediği video çekimi sırasında polis tarafından engellendi. Mesleğini yaptığını belirten gazeteciye, polis ters kelepçe takarak gözaltına almak istedi. Kısa bir süre sonra polis yetkilisinin “Gazeteciyi bırakın” demesiyle serbest bırakılan Aran’ın telefonuna el konuldu. El konulan telefonunu güvenlik şubeden tutanakla teslim alan gazeteci, saldırıda bulunan polis hakkında suç duyurusunda bulunacağını belirtti.

Haziran ayından bu yana “devletin güvenliği veya iç veya dış siyasal yararları itibarıyla gizli kalması gereken bilgileri yaymak” iddiasıyla Ankara Sincan cezaevinde bulunan OdaTV Ankara Haber Müdürü Müyesser Yıldız hakkında geçtiğimiz sene Milli Savunma Bakanı Hulusi Akar’ın açmış olduğu tazminat davası bugün karara bağlandı. 250.000 TL manevi tazminat talepli davada hakim kısmi kabule karar vererek Müyesser Yıldız’ın 20.000 TL manevi tazminat ödemesi ve hükmün, masrafları Müyesser Yıldız’dan alınmak üzere en yüksek tirajlı gazetede yayınlanmasına karar verdi.

The compensation case filed by the Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar last year against OdaTV Ankara News Director Müyesser Yıldız, who has been in Ankara Sincan prison for "spreading information that should remain confidential due to the security of the state or domestic or foreign political benefits" since June, has been resolved today. In the case demanding 250.000 TL non-pecuniary damages, the judge decided to partially accept claims against Müyesser Yıldız and sentence her to pay 20.000 TL in non-pecuniary damages. The verdict will also be published in the newspaper with the highest circulation, with the costs to be collected from Müyesser Yıldız.
