Journalist Demet Aran was subjected to police violence while reporting and filming the press statement for the Health and Safety Labour Watch. On October 14, 2020 journalist Demet Aran, who was reporting and filming the press statement, has been attacked by police.
During the reporting, Demet was detained and seized her mobile phone. A while after, she was released except for handing over her electronic device. Following the incident, Demet received her mobile phone from the security branch and stated that she will lodge an official complaint about the police attack.
The Coalition For Women In Journalism frustrated and condemns the risen violence against women journalists. Women journalists around the world are targeted in many forms for their reporting. We are completely against these interpretations of journalism and our most fundamental right to report. We are devastated by the scenes facing journalists in Turkey and are following these events closely. We are calling on Turkish authorities to take immediate action.

Since March 8, Women's Day, police violence against women journalists increasingly continues in the country. As the coalition, we urge the Turkish state to provide a free environment for journalists. Following the news is our most fundamental democratic right to report. We demand the immediate release of our detained colleagues. Journalism is not a crime. Journalism cannot be prevented.
