Journalist Soad Alnagafy posted a video calling upon the Iraqi authorities to evacuate her from India to Iraq as she is diagnosed with Covid-19. The Coalition For Women In Journalism implores the Iraqi authorities to help the journalist as soon as possible.

Darina Kamadadze, a correspondent for On.ge was threatened by a member of European Georgia on the day of the election. Darina was covering polling station 14 in the village of Azizkendi, Marneuli where she spotted an armed man. They made the gun hidden under his coat. When Darina inquired about the weapon, he said that it was a phone. When Darina tried to record him on camera, the armed man hit the camera and threatened her to stop recording. CFWIJ condemns the violence towards the journalist and asks European Georgia to explain this on behalf of their observers. We also demand law enforcement authorities in Georgia apprehend the culprit and investigate the matter.

Gazeta Wyborcza reporters Magda Kozioł and Joanna Urbańska-Jaworska were assaulted at the women’s rallies across Poland. Reporters were taken to the hospital after suffering minor injuries. The Coalition For Women In Journalism is devastated by the recent attacks against journalists and calls on Polish authorities to ensure the safety of journalists who are covering the rallies.

Journalist Liseron Baudoul was targeted by an online hate campaign for broadcasting a report on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict on October 22, 2020. The Coalition For Women In Journalism condemns the online harassments and stands with Liseron against these vicious attacks.

القاهرة،مصر، 30 أكتوبر—قامت الصحفية أميرة فتحي بإقامة دعوى قضائية ضد النائب محمد الرشيدي نائب رئيس مجلس الشيوخ لتهديدها وتحرشه بها بسبب تعليقها علي مخالفته لقوانين البناء في مصر. يدعم تحالف النساء العاملات بالصحافة الصحفية في مواجهة هذه الممارسات وندين أستهداف الصحفيات بسبب تغطيتهم بمثل هذه الممارسات الذكورية.

Journalist Amira Fathy of Al-Wafd newspaper filed a lawsuit against representative and vice president of the senate-house, Mohamed Elrashidy for intimidating and harassing her after commenting on his violation of construction laws. The Coalition For Women In Journalism supports the journalist against such acts and condemns targeting women journalists for their coverage with these patriarchal practices.

جدة،السعودية، 28 أكتوبر—أعلنت أسرة سجينة الرأي لجين هذلول أن لجين بدأت إضرابا عن الطعام في محبسها احتجاجا على سوء المعاملة وحرمانها من التواصل مع أسرتها ومحاميها منذ بدأ وباء كوفيد-19. يطالب تحالف النساء العاملات بالصحافة السلطات السعودية بالسماح لها أن تتواصل مع الأسرة والمحامين لحين إنها احتجازها التعسفي.

Family members of prisoner of conscience Louijain Al-Hathloul announced that she started a hunger strike protesting her mistreatment and deprivation of contact with her family and lawyers in her imprisonment since the beginning of Covid-19 breakout. The Coalition For Women In Journalism calls upon the Saudi authorities to allow her to contact her family and lawyers. We also demand that this arbitrary imprisonment ends.

Gazeteci Nurcan Yalçın hakkında Diyarbakır’da bulunan Rosa Kadın Derneği’ne üye olduğu gerekçesiyle 10 yıldan 15 yıla kadar hapis cezası istendi.

As a part of an investigation against Diyarbakır-based Rosa Women’s Association, an indictment was launched against journalist Nurcan Yalçın. Nurcan might face ten to 15 years in prison over charges of being a member of the organization and spreading propaganda. The Coalition For Women In Journalism condemns Turkish authorities intimidation of women journalists and calls for retracting these charges immediately.
