Guatemala: CFWIJ Congratulates Anastasia Mejia For Winning The 2021 International Press Freedom Award
Anastasia Mejia, a radio journalist from Joybaj, Guatemala, won the 2021 Press Freedom Award. The journalist was recognized for her relentless service in the field of journalism. Anastasia co-founded Xolabaj Radio, dedicated to news for the local community. In 2017, she also started Xolabaj TV, which broadcasts live and recorded content on the outlet's Facebook and YouTube accounts. Anastasia's channel aims to give a platform to women, especially Indigenous women, to share their life experiences and issues that impact their community. CFWIJ congratulates Anastasia for her well-deserving win.
Mexico: Assassinated Journalist, Regina Martinez, Honored With The Polk Special Award.
The George Polk Awards this year decided to honour Regina Martinez with the Polk Special Award. Regina Martinez, a crime reporter, was assassinated in her home in 2012. The investigation into her murder was riddled with irregularities, causing outrage in the journalist communities across the globe.

Halkevleri Derneği’nin 89’uncu yıl dönümünde bu yıl dokuz kadın gazeteci yıl içerisinde yaptıkları haberlerle “Halkın Hakları Basın, Sanat ve Dayanışma Ödülleri”ne layık görüldü. The Coalition For Women In Journalism is thrilled that the Sedat Simavi Literature Award, organized by the Turkish Journalists' Association each year, was awarded to two women journalists and two women radio presenters. Journalists Hazal Ocak and Beril Ötkan, and Radio program producers Çiğdem Işık and Sevilay Tunalı are among the award winners of 2020.

United States: CFWIJ Members Jane Ferguson And Nicholas Kristof Presented With Aurora Humanitarian Journalism Award
The Coalition For Women In Journalism is thrilled that our global mentor Jane Ferguson and Board of Advisors member Nicholas Kristof will be presented with the inaugural Aurora Humanitarian Journalism Award today on October 19, 2020, during the first event of the “Gratitude in Action” series planned to mark Aurora’s fifth anniversary. The “Gratitude in Action” is a series of charity events aimed to increase the impact of the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative.Through the funds of this inaugural event Aurora will donate a special grant to the Committee to Protect Journalists in order to amplify the work of CPJ in promoting press freedom worldwide. The event will be broadcasted in auroraprize.com.

Finnish journalist Jessika Aro who was awarded the International Women of Courage award was notified earlier this week that at the request of eight Senators, the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) decided to revoke her award.

The Coalition For Women In Journalism congratulates recipients of annual “Washington Women In Journalism Awards”. The event was founded in 2014 to celebrate the remarkable work by women in journalism in the nation’s capital. This year the award ceremony will be conducted online and CEO of Washingtonian will honor four of Washington’s top female political reporters across four categories: “Hall of Fame Award”, “Outstanding Journalist in Broadcast Television”, “Outstanding Journalist in Print” and “Star to Watch”.
