France: CFWIJ Is Alarmed By The Violent Attack On France 3 TV’s News Reporter
A France 3 reporter was assaulted in a violent attack in Les Vans. The journalist was in the market covering a rally happening in violation of Covid-19 measures on March 27. The journalist was about to interview someone when a man began to yell at the news team. The man then hit the camera, injuring the nose and chin of the photojournalist. The alleged attacker then tried to dodge law enforcement by changing his clothes but was eventually arrested. CFWIJ condemns the violent attack on the France 3 TV team and offers our support. We believe no journalist should be attacked in the field, and such assaults must be investigated by law enforcement.
United States: CFWIJ Condemns The Assault On Adaure Achumba
Adaure Achumba, the reporter for WFMY News 2, was impeded on the street while she was about to broadcast live from Elm Street, Greensboro. As the reporter was preparing her shot, a woman came from behind and shouted in her ear. Upon inquiring why she did so, the unidentified woman threatened Adaure and spat on her face shield.

Bulgaria: CFWIJ Is Alarmed By Another Attack Against Journalist Desislava Panayotova
Desislava Panayotova is a journalist for the online news website DEN News. Unidentified men destroyed the glass screen of Desislava’s car, which was parked outside her residence, on Friday, March 12. The incident is the second of its kind. In December last year, Desislava’s car was shot at, leaving bullets in the windscreen. The attack seems to be a tactic to intimidate and threaten the journalist, as nothing was found missing from the car. CFWIJ condemns the dangerous and desperate attempts to discourage the journalist from doing her job. We demand law enforcement to investigate and apprehend the criminals behind the vandalism.

United States: CFWIJ Condemns The Police Violence Against Journalist Shauna Sowersby
Freelance journalist Shauna Sowersby was assaulted by police during her coverage of a Seattle protest on November 3, election night. Shauna recounted to the U.S. Press Freedom Tracker that while the press remained on the sidewalk, she was still shoved for a “good four or five seconds” when trying to film an arrest. Shauna was wearing a bulletproof vest, with her press credentials visible, but this did not deter the officer’s aggression. CFWIJ condemns the authorities’ continued assaults on journalists.

The journalist was verbally and physically harassed while doing her job. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) is utterly dismayed by the violations against journalists in Turkey. We demand the Turkish state to end police violence and provide a free and safer environment attacking them instead.
Myanmar: CFWIJ Condemns The Unjustified Detention Of Kay Zon Nwe
Multimedia journalist Kay Zon Nwe was detained while following an anti-coup protest held in Sanchaung, Yangon on Saturday noon. The reporter was live-streaming from the sight of protest where the police cracked down on protestors. The whereabouts of Kay Zone remains unknown after the detention. Several demonstrations were held in different parts of Yangon, the biggest city of Myanmar. Security forces were deployed in heavy numbers. In videos on the Internet, soldiers are seen running after media workers, also beating and dragging protesters towards police vans. CFWIJ condemns this police brutality and demands law enforcement authorities in Myanmar to release the journalist. The Myanmar crisis needs to be addressed urgently by all stakeholders in the country to end this curb on critical voices.
Democratic Republic Of The Congo (DRC): CFWIJ Is Appalled By The Shooting Of Journalist Nanou Kazaku. We Call For An Immediate Investigation Into The Incident.
Nanou Kazaku, a radio journalist based in Goma, the capital of North-Kivu province in the DRC, was shot on Wednesday, February 17. Nanou was covering a demonstration in the Keyshero neighborhood when she took a bullet to the neck. The journalist was rushed to CBCA hospital and treated for her injuries. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) is appalled by the shooting of the journalist. We demand an immediate and proactive police investigation into this attack.

Journalist Elena Solovyova’s financial information was released online without her permission. The leak was accompanied by several unfounded accusations that could potentially put her life at risk. This is not only an attempt to intimidate her through online harassment, it also seriously violates her right to privacy and can result in a threat to life.
