India: CFWIJ Condemns The Police Intimidation Of Journalist Barkha Dutt

The Unnao police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against The MOJO story news portal run by senior Indian journalist Barkha Dutt. The FIR names seven other Twitter handles for deliberately spreading misinformation over the case. Barkha has termed the police action against her as “brazen harassment and bullying”, and she is ready to fight the charges in court. CFWIJ offers its full support and solidarity to the journalist. We urge the Unnao police department to drop the baseless claims against Barkha.

Coşkun’a yönelik “terörle mücadelede görev almış kişileri terör örgütlerine hedef göstermek” suçlamasıyla görülen dava mahkemenin mağdur polis memuruna ilişkin Çevik Kuvvet’e yazılan müzekkerenin sonucunun sorulmasına karar verdi. Bir sonraki duruşma 8 Haziran’da görülecek. Turkey: CFWIJ Demands Journalist Canan Coşkun’s Acquittal Immediately

The fourth hearing of the trial against journalist Canan Coşkun was held today in Istanbul. The journalist faces charges of "targeting the counter-terrorism officer to terrorist organizations". The court ruled to ask the result of the warrant written to the police service regarding the victim police officer and adjourned the next hearing to June 8, 2021. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) condemns the legal persecution against journalists who are bringing public issues to light and demands their acquittal.

Myanmar: CFWIJ Condemns The Crackdown On The Journalist Community And Demands That All Detained Journalists Be Immediately Released.

At least eight journalists have faced detentions including Shwe Yee Win for criticizing the military takeover in the country. Authorities have also doubled down on censorship by warning the press council regarding the language they are using to describe the political situation in the country, as well as through frequent suspension of social media.

Mahkeme Demir hakkındaki yurtdışı yasağı ile adli kontrolünün kaldırılmasına hükmederken, gazetecinin sosyal medya hesaplarına dair yapılan siber araştırma rapor sonucunun da beklenmesine karar verdi. Bir sonraki duruşma 8 Haziran’da görülecek. Gazetecilikte Kadın Koalisyonu olarak bir kez daha gazeteciliğin suç olmadığını yetkililere hatırlatmak istiyoruz. The fifth hearing of the trial against journalist Ruken Demir was held today in İzmir. The court lifted the journalist’s travel ban however, the trial was adjourned once again requesting to examine Ruken’s social media accounts. The next hearing will be held on June 8. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) reiterates once again that journalism is not a crime. We urge the authorities to end legal persecution against journalists and demand Ruken Demir’s immediate acquittal.

Northern Ireland: The Coalition For Women In Journalism Calls Upon PNSI And The UK Authorities To Investigate The Threats To Patricia Devlin, And Bring The Perpetrators To Justice.

Award-winning crime journalist Patricia Devlin is subjected to death and rape threats since 2019. In April 2019, Patricia was targeted with an online troll campaign by members of a mob she had been regularly reporting on. They harassed her with misogynistic slurs and sent out threats of rape. In October 2019, the situation worsened when she received rape threats for her newborn son and became victim to the doxxing campaign which gave out the address of the journalist and named her family members.

Democratic Republic Of The Congo (DRC): CFWIJ Is Appalled By The Shooting Of Journalist Nanou Kazaku. We Call For An Immediate Investigation Into The Incident.

Nanou Kazaku, a radio journalist based in Goma, the capital of North-Kivu province in the DRC, was shot on Wednesday, February 17. Nanou was covering a demonstration in the Keyshero neighborhood when she took a bullet to the neck. The journalist was rushed to CBCA hospital and treated for her injuries. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) is appalled by the shooting of the journalist. We demand an immediate and proactive police investigation into this attack.

Northern Ireland: CFWIJ Is Alarmed Over Death Threats To Allison Morris

Award-winning journalist, Allison Morris, a security correspondent and columnist for The Irish News was targeted with death threats. A graffiti targeting Allison as an MI5 agent along with a crosshair was drawn in North Belfast on Thursday. Allison has received threats from paramilitary forces in the past as well. CFWIJ is alarmed by this pattern of threatening graffiti in Northern Ireland. We urge law enforcement forces in Northern Ireland to investigate this series of threats and apprehend the criminals behind it.
