Singh was booked under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act after he tweeted about the violence underway in the state of Tripura at the behest of right-wing Hindu extremists.

Albania: Journalist Anila Hoxha, Cameraman Nearly Killed As Errant Cop Pushes Them Into An Abyss

Journalist Anila Hoxha and her cameraman were almost killed when a police officer, who has since been dismissed, pushed them into an abyss as they approached prominent businessman Ruzhdi Hoxha’s murder site. Anila and her cameraman were reporting on the murder investigation and were at the site on Dajti mountain, where Ruzhdi Hoxha’s body was found. A video shared on the internet showed a police officer pushing the journalist and the cameraman in order to prevent them from filming the ongoing investigation. Anila and her cameraman fortunately managed to escape death and were pulled up from the edge by others on site. The abusive police officer was dismissed after the attack was widely criticized. However, this is not the first instance of mistreatment of journalists at the hands of the police in the country.

İstanbul’da Emek Barış ve Demokrasi Güçleri‘nin, düzenleyeceği 1 Eylül Dünya Barış Günü mitinginin engellenmesi üzerine yapılan basın açıklamasına polis müdahale etti. Müdahaleyi görüntüleyen gazeteci Eylem Nazlıer’in telefonuna polis el koymaya kalktı. Basın açıklamasını takip eden en az dört kadın gazeteci ise polis ablukasına alınarak haber yapma hakkı ihlal edildi. Gazetecilikte Kadın Koalisyonu (CFWIJ) olarak gazetecilere karşı sürekli uygulanan polis şiddetini kınıyoruz. Türk yetkililerden, söz konusu baskılara derhal son verilmesini talep ediyoruz.

Zimbabwe: CFWIJ Condemns The Police Harassment Against Journalist Elizabeth Mashiri

The bureau chief and assistant editor for The Mirror Midlands, Elizabeth Mashiri, was detained by police in Gweru on August 17. The journalist was recording a scuffle between the police and vendors when she was apprehended for allegations of disorderly conduct. Elizabeth was taken into custody even after producing her press credentials issued by the Zimbabwe Media Commission. After intervention from her lawyer, the police released Elizabeth after four hours in detention.
