Following the tweet, Fawaz was targeted by supporters of the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM), a political party founded by Aoun, as well as its ally Hezbollah. This is not the first time Fawaz has been targeted by members of the FPM, which makes her feel very concerned for her safety.

Journalist Mariam Seif El Dine is a strong critic of Lebanon's political parties and is often targeted because of her coverage. On two different occasions, her family was physically assaulted. Mariam and her family had to flee their neighborhood after receiving threats that they would be killed otherwise. Mariam believes that supporters of a separatist organization were behind the attacks on her relatives. CFWIJ condemns the brutality that the journalist and her family have endured. We urge the Lebanese authorities to take action and apprehend the culprits.

Veteran journalist and the editor-in-chief of the news outlet Daraj, Diana Moukalled, will appear in court on January 14 for her alleged defamation of a person named ‘Rahhal’. The journalist was given no further information about her libel case. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) demands authorities to clarify the details of the lawsuit filed against Diana and reject the proposed charges. We urge Lebanese authorities to end their intimidation of journalists and to respect press freedom.

Layal Alikhtiar became the target of a hate campaign that was initiated against her by a separatist organisation. She was targeted with death threats over a tweet that she posted on January 5. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) follows the deliberate smear campaign against Layal with great concern. We demand authorities to take immediate action to stop online abuse towards the journalist.

Journalist Mahassen Maursal was attacked online and a Twitter campaign was launched against her upon fake news. The Coalition For Women In Journalism condemns this vicious attack on the journalist and highlights the gravity of fake news.

The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) is enraged about the incessant online harassment and threats that our former fellow and independent journalist Luna Safwan is being targeted with. We demand Lebanese authorities to ensure Luna’s safety and apprehend her culprits who are openly sending her death threats online and using inappropriate labels to malign her.
