The trial for three police officers who viciously and deliberately attacked reporter Beyza Kural Yılancı on charges of "violating freedom of work and profession" was held today. The court accepted the journalist's participation in the case. However, the request for additional defence from the police officers about assaulting and threatening Beyza was rejected by the court. The next hearing was adjourned to September 24, 2021. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) demands the Turkish judiciary imposing criminal sanctions for police officers who inflict violence on journalists.

The 13th hearing of the trial against journalist Kibriye Evren over her journalistic activities was held today in Diyarbakır. The journalist was sued over allegations of being a member of a terrorist organisation and spreading its propaganda. The court postponed the hearing again. The next hearing will be on November 11, 2021. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) reminds the Turkish authorities once again that journalism is not a crime. Journalist Kibriye must be acquitted of all charges she faces.

An investigation was launched against Artı Gerçek reporter Yağmur Kaya with the allegation of "targeting people who took part in counter-terrorism", following her journalistic coverage. Yağmur’s interview with Human Rights Association (İHD) Co-Chair and lawyer Eren Keskin was considered a criminal element. As the Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ), we condemn the unjust investigations and lawsuits that aim to intimidate journalists. We reiterate once again: Journalism is not a crime.

The court adjourned the next hearing to November 23 2021, ruling that the missing elements should be completed. The trial against Özgür Gündem newspaper’s former editor, Reyhan Çapan was adjourned for the 20th time. Today the court ruled to eliminate the missing elements of the case file and postponed the next hearing to November 3, 2021. The Coalition For Women In Journalism condemns the attempts to intimidate journalists with the unjust trials that are constantly postponed. We demand the acquittal of Reyhan and other journalists immediately. Journalism is not a crime.

Geçtiğimiz yıl Cumhuriyet Gazetesi'nde yayımlanan haberi sebebiyle dönemin Hazine ve Maliye Bakanı Berat Albayrak'ın şikayeti üzerine Hazal Ocak aleyhine açılan tazminat davası bugün İstanbul'da görüldü. Dava 14 Ekim’e ertelendi.

The hearing of the case against Hazal Ocak concerning her news piece “Son-in-law knows his way” was held today. The case was filed upon the complaint of the then Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak. The next hearing postponed to October 14, 2021.
