Lebanon: CFWIJ Is Concerned Over The Persistent Harassment Of Mariam Seif El Dine
Journalist Mariam Seif El Dine is a strong critic of Lebanon's political parties and is often targeted because of her coverage. On two different occasions, her family was physically assaulted. Mariam and her family had to flee their neighborhood after receiving threats that they would be killed otherwise. Mariam believes that supporters of a separatist organization were behind the attacks on her relatives. CFWIJ condemns the brutality that the journalist and her family have endured. We urge the Lebanese authorities to take action and apprehend the culprits.
Russia: CFWIJ Calls Out State Officials For Their Inability To Protect Natalya Zubkova
Natalya Zubkova, editor in chief for The Novosti Kiselevsk network, faced horrific threats on February 25. She was attacked by a man who grabbed her from behind and pushed her into the snow. The assailant threatened her with further attacks if “she dares to open her mouth again.” For safety reasons, Natalya had to flee Kuzbass city, along with her young daughters. The journalist shared the harrowing details in a YouTube video she posted on February 27. Natalya has taken shelter in an undisclosed location. CFWIJ is appalled by this unfortunate incident, and we offer Natalya our full support. We demand Russian officials to investigate the attack immediately and apprehend the culprit.
Northern Ireland: The Coalition For Women In Journalism Calls Upon PNSI And The UK Authorities To Investigate The Threats To Patricia Devlin, And Bring The Perpetrators To Justice.
Award-winning crime journalist Patricia Devlin is subjected to death and rape threats since 2019. In April 2019, Patricia was targeted with an online troll campaign by members of a mob she had been regularly reporting on. They harassed her with misogynistic slurs and sent out threats of rape. In October 2019, the situation worsened when she received rape threats for her newborn son and became victim to the doxxing campaign which gave out the address of the journalist and named her family members.
Northern Ireland: CFWIJ Is Alarmed Over Death Threats To Allison Morris
Award-winning journalist, Allison Morris, a security correspondent and columnist for The Irish News was targeted with death threats. A graffiti targeting Allison as an MI5 agent along with a crosshair was drawn in North Belfast on Thursday. Allison has received threats from paramilitary forces in the past as well. CFWIJ is alarmed by this pattern of threatening graffiti in Northern Ireland. Patricia Devlin is a crime journalist who is repeatedly targeted by criminal groups in Ireland due to her work. Recently her name was graffitied on the wall alongside a gun target to intimidate her.

A man was sentenced to six months in prison for sending online death threat messages to journalist Amy Fenton. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) welcomes the conviction of the online assailant. We reiterate that these malicious threats can manifest severe consequences. We demand similar sanctions be applied to all offenders who target journalists with vicious death threats.
Pakistan: CFWIJ Condemns The Rape And Death Threats Against Zebunnisa Burki
Zebunnisa Burki, a deputy editor for The News, endured vicious rape and death threats on Sunday, February 14. A rider associated with a local parcel delivery service abused the journalist, threatening to rape and kill her along with her family. Zebunnisa reached out to the vehicle service via chat to report his behavior. The journalist only received a response after tweeting about the incident. It is reported that the delivery service has fired the employee involved in the alarming misconduct.

United States: CFWIJ Condemns The Threats Of Arrest Against Journalist Meredith Aldis
A town hall meeting was held by U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene in Dalton, Georgia. Meredith was asked to leave the premises after trying to pose her question to the Representative. Security escorted Meredith from the meeting hall and threatened to arrest the journalist and her crew for criminal trespassing if they did not leave the property. There has been a recent wave of killings targeting human rights workers and journalists in Afghanistan. Separatist organizations have admitted to organizing a terror cell to attack journalists, who they claim are easy targets. Many women journalists have fled the country for their protection, while the rest seek political asylum to live their life peacefully. Farahnaz Forotan, Fatema Hashim, Nazifa, and Mariam Alimi are some of the many women journalists targeted with death threats in the latest series of killings in Afghanistan. United States: CFWIJ Is Concerned About The Controversial Termination Of Lauren Wolfe
Lauren Wolfe, a former New York Times editor, tweeted a picture last Tuesday of President Biden’s plane landing in Washington captioned, “I have chills”. Lauren was then viciously trolled by far-right supremacists, targeted with rape and death threats. Following the outcry, news of her termination from The New York Times was announced. While the newspaper has clarified its position that Lauren was not a contract employee, her friends came to her defense on Twitter, calling out the right-wing radicals behind the retaliation. CFWIJ is utterly dismayed by the New York Times’ decision against the journalist. We hope she will be compensated for her hard work and dedication.
