United Kingdom: CFWIJ Welcomes The Imprisonment Of The Online Assailant Targeting Journalist Amy Fenton
A man was sentenced to six months in prison for sending online death threat messages to journalist Amy Fenton. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) welcomes the conviction of the online assailant. We reiterate that these malicious threats can manifest severe consequences. We demand similar sanctions be applied to all offenders who target journalists with vicious death threats.

Aralarında beş kadın gazetecinin de yargılandığı davanın dokuzuncu duruşması 22 Nisan’da görülecek. Gazetecilikte Kadın Koalisyonu olarak gazetecilere yönelik haksız yere açılan davaları kınıyoruz. Söz konusu davaların sürekli ertelenmesini ise gazetecileri yıldırmak ve sindirmek amacıyla yapıldığına inanıyoruz ve yineliyoruz: Gazetecilik suç değildir.
Turkey: CFWIJ Condemns The Constant Procrastination Of The Trials Against Journalists
The lawsuit filed against journalists who were beaten and detained in the police raid on Özgür Gündem newspaper was postponed once again. The next hearing of the trial, in which five female journalists are being tried, will be held on April 22. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) condemns these unfair trials against journalists in Turkey. We consider these trials are constantly postponed to intimidate journalists. We reiterate that journalism is not a crime.
Canada: CFWIJ Condemns The Online Derogatory Remarks Towards Amrit Gill
Hockey Night Punjabi broadcaster, Amrit Gill, was targeted by vicious online trolls. Amrit posted a picture of her excitement in hosting Hockey Night Canada only to face an onslaught of derogatory remarks. The comments, most of them now deleted, under Amrit's tweet were disrespectful and insensitive. CFWIJ condemns the malicious online attacks against the journalist. We believe in inclusivity and every woman’s right to a safe space online.

Turkey: CFWIJ Condemns The Indictment Launched Against Journalist Şehriban Abi And Nazan Sala
An indictment was filed against Jin News reporter Şehriban Abi, journalist Nazan Sala, and Mesopotamia Agency (MA) reporter Zeynep Durgut on terrorism-related charges. Both Şehriban and Nazan were apprehended by the authorities, where they remain behind bars. Zeynep, however, was listed in the indictment but has yet to be arrested. The Van 5th High Criminal Court accepted the case, and judicial proceedings are underway. The journalists, if convicted, face a sentence of up to 15 years in prison. The Coalition For Women In Journalism condemns the unfounded charges against journalists, and we demand their immediate release.
United States: CFWIJ Welcomes The Resignation Of Tj Ducklo After His Threatening Remarks
White House deputy press secretary TJ Ducklo has resigned from his post after the reported scandal of threatening a female correspondent. The deputy secretary called and threatened Politico reporter Tara Palmeri for pursuing a story on his relationship with a journalist. After the media exposed his misconduct, TJ Ducklo was suspended from his post for a week by Jen Psaki, the WH press secretary. However, the decision was widely criticized as insufficient for his deplorable actions. CFWIJ welcomes TJ Ducklo’s resignation from the Biden administration.

Journalist Mrinal Pande was charged with sedition for reporting or sharing allegedly unverified news about ongoing farmers’ protests in New Delhi. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) condemns the police report and the unfair charges against journalists over their coverage of the demonstrations. We demand an immediate dismissal for the accusations that Mrinal faces.
Pakistan: CFWIJ Condemns The Rape And Death Threats Against Zebunnisa Burki
Zebunnisa Burki, a deputy editor for The News, endured vicious rape and death threats on Sunday, February 14. A rider associated with a local parcel delivery service abused the journalist, threatening to rape and kill her along with her family. Zebunnisa reached out to the vehicle service via chat to report his behavior. The journalist only received a response after tweeting about the incident. It is reported that the delivery service has fired the employee involved in the alarming misconduct.
Iran: CFWIJ Welcomes Journalist Saba Azarpeik’s Release
Journalist Saba Azarpeik was reportedly released on bail on February 8. She was arrested illegally by The Iranian Cyber Police (FATA) on February 7 for unclear reasons. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) welcomes the release of Saba. However, we demand the Iranian regime to end intimidating journalists solely for doing their job.
Northern Ireland: CFWIJ Is Highly Alarmed By The Latest Wave Of Death Threats To Patricia Devlin
Award-winning journalist Patricia Devlin again received sinister death threats on Friday. A graffiti depicting her name and a gunshot sign was drawn on different locations in east Belfast. The chilling sight of graffiti addressing Patricia is a direct threat to her life.CFWIJ is highly alarmed as this has happened before with Patricia. We demand law enforcement agencies in Belfast to investigate and apprehend whoever is behind such vicious threats.
