A fatal bus accident near the city of Naqadeh took the lives of Reyhaneh Yassini and Mahshad Karimi. Both women journalists were on the bus along with twenty other reporters. According to the reports, the bus carrying the journalists was in poor condition and crashed near the Islamic Republic's west Azerbaijan region.

Darya Komarova, a correspondent for the Idel Realities project of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, faced another episode of legal persecution by judicial authorities. The Chuvashia regional Supreme Court overturned the acquittal decision previously issued by the Leninsky district court.

The trial for three police officers who viciously and deliberately attacked reporter Beyza Kural Yılancı on charges of "violating freedom of work and profession" was held today. The court accepted the journalist's participation in the case. However, the request for additional defence from the police officers about assaulting and threatening Beyza was rejected by the court. The next hearing was adjourned to September 24, 2021. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) demands the Turkish judiciary imposing criminal sanctions for police officers who inflict violence on journalists.

Ivory Hecker, Fox 26 correspondent for Houston, was fired after her on-air claim that “her corporate bosses had been muzzling her”. Ivory shared these claims during her live weather report. The journalist accused her news network and confirmed that she provided secret behind-the-scenes recordings to Project Veritas Group.

The 13th hearing of the trial against journalist Kibriye Evren over her journalistic activities was held today in Diyarbakır. The journalist was sued over allegations of being a member of a terrorist organisation and spreading its propaganda. The court postponed the hearing again. The next hearing will be on November 11, 2021. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) reminds the Turkish authorities once again that journalism is not a crime. Journalist Kibriye must be acquitted of all charges she faces.

The trial of Cumhuriyet newspaper reporter Hazal Ocak, managing editor Olcay Büyüktaş Akça, editor-in-chief İpek Özbey and photo-journalist Vedat Arık was held for the third time in İstanbul. The court adjourned the hearing to December 1, 2021, once again. Journalists face 14 years of prison sentence if they are convicted. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) finds filing unjust trials against journalists is a vicious attack on press freedom. We call the Turkish state to end the intimidation of journalists by legally harassing them. We reiterate once again that journalism is not a crime.

Three journalists from digital media platform Soch Videos were arrested by Sindh police for covering protests organized by working-class communities outside Bilawal House. Fizza Qureshi and Gul Nayani who have been consistently reporting on the housing crisis in the city were present on site. According to Fizza, the Sindh police was deployed solely to disrupt a peaceful protest in order to silence the legitimate grievances of those affected by the capitalist policies of the state.

An investigation was launched against Artı Gerçek reporter Yağmur Kaya with the allegation of "targeting people who took part in counter-terrorism", following her journalistic coverage. Yağmur’s interview with Human Rights Association (İHD) Co-Chair and lawyer Eren Keskin was considered a criminal element. As the Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ), we condemn the unjust investigations and lawsuits that aim to intimidate journalists. We reiterate once again: Journalism is not a crime.
