Turkey: CFWIJ Demands Immediate Acquittal Of 17 Women Media Workers On Trial More Than Nine Years
The trial, known as the "KCK Press Case", in which 17 women journalists and media workers were tried for nine years on charges of being affiliated with a terrorist organization and establishing and leading an armed terrorist organization was postponed for the 22nd time. The court adjourned the next hearing to November 23 2021, ruling that the missing elements should be completed. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) denounces the unjust case, which was postponed over nine years for various excuses. We demand the acquittal of journalists immediately.
Pakistan: Women Journalists Attacked Online Following Prime Minister's Troubling Remarks On Rape; CFWIJ Condemns The Misogyny Being Encouraged In The Country.
Several women journalists face gendered attacks and threats on Twitter after criticizing Prime Minister Imran Khan for his remarks on the rising rates of sexual violence in the country. In a recent interview with an international media outlet, Khan reasserted his misogynistic comments regarding rape in the country, linking the crime to the attire of the survivor.

Bugün İstanbul’da görülen duruşmada mahkeme, eksik unsurların giderilmesine karar vererek bir sonraki duruşmayı 3 Kasım 2021 tarihine erteledi. Gazetecilikte Kadın Koalisyonu (CFWIJ) olarak sürekli ertelenen davalarla gazetecilerin yıldırılmaya ve sindirilmeye çalışılmasını kınıyor, Çapan ve diğer gazetecilerin beraatini talep ediyoruz.
Turkey: Journalist Reyhan Capan Appeared In Court For The 20th Time, Trial Adjourned Once Again – CFWIJ Condemns The Legal Harassment
The trial against Özgür Gündem newspaper’s former editor, Reyhan Çapan was adjourned for the 20th time. Today the court ruled to eliminate the missing elements of the case file and postponed the next hearing to November 3, 2021. The Coalition For Women In Journalism condemns the attempts to intimidate journalists with the unjust trials that are constantly postponed. We demand the acquittal of Reyhan and other journalists immediately. Journalism is not a crime.
Guatemala: CFWIJ Congratulates Anastasia Mejia For Winning The 2021 International Press Freedom Award
Anastasia Mejia, a radio journalist from Joybaj, Guatemala, won the 2021 Press Freedom Award. The journalist was recognized for her relentless service in the field of journalism. Anastasia co-founded Xolabaj Radio, dedicated to news for the local community. In 2017, she also started Xolabaj TV, which broadcasts live and recorded content on the outlet's Facebook and YouTube accounts. Anastasia's channel aims to give a platform to women, especially Indigenous women, to share their life experiences and issues that impact their community. CFWIJ congratulates Anastasia for her well-deserving win.
United Kingdom: CFWIJ Condemns The Legal Harassment Against Clare Rewcastle
Investigative journalist and founder of Sarawak Report and Radio Free Sarawak, Clare Rewcastle was subjected to legal harassment by Kuwaiti investment advisor Hammad Al Wazzan. The journalist received letters from a London-based law firm Taylor Wessing on behalf of Al Wazzan. The letters from the law firm demanded Clare remove all the references related to Al Wazzan from her articles mentioned in the Sarawak report.

The hearing of the case against Hazal Ocak concerning her news piece “Son-in-law knows his way” was held today. The case was filed upon the complaint of the then Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak. The next hearing postponed to October 14, 2021.

Valyaryna Kustava, a poet and an anchor for Belarusian television left the country along with her toddler daughter amidst the threats to her safety. The journalist was facing two criminal cases against her in the ongoing persecution against dissents and critical journalists.
India: CFWIJ Condemns The Unjustified Police Harassment Against Journalists Rana Ayyub And Saba Naqvi
Freelance journalist Saba Naqvi and the Washington Post journalist Rana Ayyub are facing a criminal complaint filed by a police inspector. The complaint that was filed on June 16 includes the names of news outlet The Wire and a few politicians from the opposition Congress party. It accuses Rana and Saba of posting a video on Twitter with misleading and unverified information.
Canada: CFWIJ Condemns The Ongoing Institutional Overreaches By The Rcmp At Fairy Creek
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has routinely intimidated journalists and restricted the access of the press from covering the protests of The Rainforest Flying Squad. The protest began against logging of an old-growth forest in the region last year, and have been successful in blocking the action since. This, however, has not stopped violations of civil liberties as armed forces carry out arbitrary arrests and bully journalists covering the proceedings.
Russia: CFWIJ Condemns The Police Harassment Against The Journalist Veronika Samusik
Veronika Samusik, a correspondent for independent news website, Sota.Vision, was detained by the police on June 11. Veronika was covering an assignment at Red Square in Moscow, a performance by artist Pavel Krisevich in support of political prisoners. Police officers dressed in plainclothes approached Veronika and confiscated her camera and memory card as she was recording the event.

Gazeteci Ayşe Kara hakkında, yazdığı haberler ve Özgür Gazeteciler Cemiyeti’ne (ÖGC) üye olduğu gerekçe gösterilerek açılan davanın ilk duruşması Diyarbakır 5’inci Ağır Ceza Mahkemesi’nde görüldü. Mahkeme, Kara hakkında uygulanan yurt dışı yasağının devam etmesine karar verdi. Bir sonraki duruşma 9 Kasım 2021’de görülecek.
