Algeria: CFWIJ Calls For An Immediate Investigation Into The Brutal Murder Of Journalist Tin Hinan Laceb
Prominent Algerian journalist Tin Hinan Laceb, of ENTV’s Amazigh channel (TV4), was reportedly killed by her husband on January 26. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) is horrified by the appalling attack. We demand Algerian authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the murder of Tin Hinan immediately.
Russia: CFWIJ Condemns The Harassment Of Journalists At Protests Across Russia
According to media reports, at least 50 incidents of journalists obstructed in the field have been recorded. Several journalists were detained in 17 major cities throughout Russia while reporting on the recent protests. Although women journalists had their press cards and credentials, it didn't stop security forces from torturing them. Sixteen journalists were detained in St. Petersburg alone. Elizaveta Kirpanova, a Novaya Gazeta special correspondent, was hit by security officials wielding truncheons. CFWIJ finds these assaults quite alarming, and we urge state authorities to ensure the safety of journalists.
China: CFWIJ Hails The Courageous Female Journalist Who Confronted A Kidnapper, Saving A Young Boy
A female journalist in Kunming City of China’s Yunnan province is being commended for negotiating with a kidnapper holding a young boy hostage. The Coalition For Women In Journalism applauds the reporter’s bravery.

Gazeteci Durket Süren hakkında “örgüt üyeliği”, “örgüte bilerek ve isteyerek yardım” ve “örgüt propagandası yapmak” suçlamalarıyla açılan davanın beşinci duruşması bugün Diyarbakır’da görüldü. Mahkeme heyetinin bir yıl önce talep ettiği raporun hala dava dosyasına eklenmemesi nedeniyle dava bir kez daha ertelendi. Bir sonraki duruşma 26 Nisan 2021 tarihine ertelendi. Gazetecilikte Kadın Koalisyonu olarak Süren’e karşı açılan davayı kınıyoruz. Turkey: CFWIJ Demands Journalist Durket Süren’s Acquittal Immediately
The fifth hearing of the trial against journalist Durket Süren was held in Diyarbakır today. Durket faces charges of being affiliated with a terrorist organization, knowingly and willingly aiding an organization and spreading propaganda for an organization. The case was adjourned once again, regarding the report requested by the court a year ago was still not included in the case file. The next hearing was postponed to April 26, 2021. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) condemns the accusations that the journalist faces. We consider that silencing the journalists through the judiciary is a new method.
Afghanistan: Afghan Women Journalists Under Grave Risk, Amidst Rising Threats
There has been a recent wave of killings targeting human rights workers and journalists in Afghanistan. Separatist organizations have admitted to organizing a terror cell to attack journalists, who they claim are easy targets. Many women journalists have fled the country for their protection, while the rest seek political asylum to live their life peacefully. Farahnaz Forotan, Fatema Hashim, Nazifa, and Mariam Alimi are some of the many women journalists targeted with death threats in the latest series of killings in Afghanistan. CFWIJ finds this situation highly alarming and calls upon the Afghan government and authorities to ensure journalists' safety.
United States: CFWIJ Expresses Concern Over The Harassment Of Sports Journalist
Female sports journalist Britt Ghiroli has opened up about her experience with sexual harassment in 2012. While reporting on the Baltimore Orioles baseball team, the journalist was misled by a player and lured to his hotel room. The Coalition For Women In Journalism condemns such behaviour towards a journalist trying to work within professional boundaries.

Journalists Katsyaryna Andreyeva and Darya Chultsova are behind bars since November 2020 for live streaming a protest. The Coalition For Women In Journalism condemns the unjustified arrest of journalists on duty.
United States: CFWIJ Is Concerned About The Controversial Termination Of Lauren Wolfe
Lauren Wolfe, a former New York Times editor, tweeted a picture last Tuesday of President Biden’s plane landing in Washington captioned, “I have chills”. Lauren was then viciously trolled by far-right supremacists, targeted with rape and death threats. Following the outcry, news of her termination from The New York Times was announced. While the newspaper has clarified its position that Lauren was not a contract employee, her friends came to her defense on Twitter, calling out the right-wing radicals behind the retaliation. CFWIJ is utterly dismayed by the New York Times’ decision against the journalist. We hope she will be compensated for her hard work and dedication.

Today, an investigation was launched against Bugün Kıbrıs columnist Ayşemden Akın over the social media posts she shared about presidential elections. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ), condemns the unfair investigation. We demand the Turkish authorities to respect freedom of expression and the free press. Journalists cannot be prosecuted for freely expressing their views.
Belarus: CFWIJ Condemns The Unjustified Imprisonment Of Journalist Alla Sharko
Alla Sharko, a human rights activist and program director of the Press Club of Belarus was arrested on December 22, 2020, along with her colleagues. Authorities searched the apartments of detainees and their offices at the Press Club. The office equipment including computers, phones, and bank cards was also confiscated.
Serbia: Gordana Bjeletić And Her Colleagues Were Targeted With Death Threats, CFWIJ Spoke To Gordana Bjeletić After Filing A Complaint About The Brutal Attacks To The Police
Journalist Gordana Bjeletić, editor-in-chief at Juzne Vesti, an investigative news portal in Southern Serbia, was targeted to online death threats with her editorial colleagues. Online harassment might seem harmless, yet, those initiatives could carry severe consequences. The journalists in Serbia are subjected to such attacks, impediment in the field because of the political climate.
England: CFWIJ Denounces Tory Mps For Their Intimidation And Criticism Of Journalist Robyn Vinter
Robyn Vinter, an investigative journalist and contributor to The Yorkshire Post, faced online intimidation and criticism from several Tory MPs, including Nadhim Zahawi and Nigel Adams. The officials targeted Robyn for her story on the problematic Covid vaccine distribution in the region. Government representatives called the report inaccurate and publicly termed it as false and dangerous. The NHS director, Dr. Nikki Kanani, confirmed to BBC that Robyn Vinter’s piece was, in fact, based on findings depicting the problems with the vaccine rollout.

Jiyan Haber sorumlu yazı işleri müdürü Sonya Bayık’ın Hasankeyf’te iki yıl önce düzenlenen protestoyu takip etmesi nedeniyle gözaltına alınıp ardından serbest bırakıldıktan sonra hakkında “toplantı ve gösteri yürüyüşleri kanununa muhalefet” suçlamasıyla açılan davanın ikinci duruşması bugün görüldü.
