TURKEY: JOURNALIST AYŞE KARA, CHARGED WITH JOURNALISM

Journalist Ayşe Kara from Özgür Gün Tv Journalist was detained on June 27 as part of an investigation launched by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for the Democratic Society Congress (DTK). Kara was taken into custody by police while having dinner at a restaurant with a friend and was taken to the Provincial Security Directorate.
Kara was accused in the Directorate with terrorism charges due to being a member of the Free Journalists' Association (ÖGC), which was closed by Statutory Decrees (KHK) issued under the State of Emergency (OHAL).
Ayşe Kara had a hearing on June 29th along with 35 other people who were taken into custody during the operations against Democratic Society Congress and was released with a condition of a ban to leave the country.
CFWIJ deplores the detention of Ayşe Kaya and reminds the Turkish authorities that the right to association is protected under Turkish Constitution.
