Turkey: Trial Of Journalists Semiha Şahin And Pınar Gayıp Adjourned For The 14th Time – Journalists Must Be Acquitted Immediately
The trial in which Etkin News Agency (ETHA) editor Semiha Şahin and reporter Pınar Gayip have tried charges of "being affiliated with a terrorist organisation" and "spreading propaganda" was postponed for the 14th time. The court adjourned the next hearing to November 9, 2021, ruling that the missing elements should be eliminated. The Coalition for Women in Journalism (CFWIJ) condemns the case against journalists, which was postponed on various excuses. Pınar and Semiha are journalists and journalism cannot be prosecuted. We demand their immediate acquittal.

Yeni Yaşam Gazetesi editörü Hatice Şahin’e “silahlı örgüt üyeliği” suçlamasıyla açılan davanın üçüncü duruşması bugün Diyarbakır’da görüldü. Mahkeme, gizli tanık ifadesinde adı geçen gazeteci Kibriye Evren’in yargılandığı davanın iddianame ve duruşma tutanaklarının Diyarbakır 5. Ağır Ceza Mahkemesi’nden istenmesine karar vererek duruşmayı 11 Ekim’e erteledi. Gazetecilikte Kadın Koalisyonu (CFWIJ) olarak haksız yere açılan davaların sürekli ertelenerek gazetecileri yıldırmaya çalışılmasını kınıyor. Gazeteciliğin suç olmadığını yineliyoruz. Türk yetkililerden Hatice Şahin’in derhal beraatına karar verilmesini talep ediyoruz.
Turkey: Legal Persecution Continues Against Journalist Hatice Şahin - The Journalist Must Be Acquitted From All Charges
The third hearing of the case against Yeni Yaşam Newspaper editor Hatice Şahin on the charge of being affiliated with an armed organisation was held in Diyarbakır today. The court adjourned the hearing yet again for the third time. The next hearing will be held on October 11. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) condemns the attempts to intimidate journalists by constantly adjourning the trials. We reiterate once again journalism is not a crime. We demand Hatice’s acquittal immediately.
