WPF is deeply alarmed by the disappearance of journalist and feminist activist Fabiola Tercero following a police raid on her residence.

Freelance journalist Maria Lilly Delgado was summoned on May 24 to testify in a money laundering case. At her second meeting on May 28, prosecutors informed Maria that she was now under investigation. The journalist responded to the previous summons, but authorities wanted to question her without her lawyer. The police released the journalist after she refused the interrogation without legal counsel.

Journalist and press officer of Radio La Costeñísima, Kalúa Salazar was sentenced to pay a fine of 7684 córdobas (approx. 220 USD), for the crime of slander after she reported on corruption by the mayor of El Rama municipality. The fine equals to four months of salary of Kalua.

The Working Group on Arbitrary Detention of the United Nations Human Rights Council approved a resolution on May 1, calling the detention of journalists Lucía Pineda and Miguel Mora in December 2018 "arbitrary" and requested the government to remedy the situation through compensation.

After more than two months of detainment, of which 41 days were spent in a maximum security prison, Lucía Pineda Ubau has been released.
