MTV Lebanon News correspondent Joyce Akiki was attacked by Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) supporters, during her live coverage about the protest between two judge supporters at Palace of Justice in Beirut. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) is utterly dismayed by the vicious attacks against Joyce. We demand Lebanese law enforcement to ensure journalists’ safety.

Veteran journalist and the editor-in-chief of the news outlet Daraj, Diana Moukalled, will appear in court on January 14 for her alleged defamation of a person named ‘Rahhal’. The journalist was given no further information about her libel case. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) demands authorities to clarify the details of the lawsuit filed against Diana and reject the proposed charges. We urge Lebanese authorities to end their intimidation of journalists and to respect press freedom.

Journalist Mahassen Maursal was attacked online and a Twitter campaign was launched against her upon fake news. The Coalition For Women In Journalism condemns this vicious attack on the journalist and highlights the gravity of fake news.

Nabih Berry, Speaker of the Lebanese parliament and Bassil Jubran, president of the free patriot movement are suing Journalist Dima Sadek for allegations of spreading false news under defamation law. CFWIJ condemns these practices against women journalists and calls upon Lebanese politicians to set their priorities straight and rise to the moment.

Following the devastating explosion in Beirut port on August 4, the citizens got together to clean the rubble, distribute waters, heal the wounds and house the unfortunate.
