Pakistan: CFWIJ Lends Support To The Protests Against The Proposed Pakistan Media Development Authority
Journalists around the country protested in the capital against the proposed Pakistan Media Development Authority (PMDA). In a sit-in conducted outside the Parliament House, journalists opposed the restrictions that the proposed bill will impose on the press in Pakistan, citing it as a measure to curb free speech and criticism in the country. The protest demonstration was supported by various sections of civil society, including members of the judiciary as well as the opposition.

Ukrainian journalist, Ustia Stefanchuk, who is now based in Canada recently published a historical testimony, on her Facebook page, about the torture her ancestors were subjected to at the hands of Soviet forces in 1941. Her Facebook page was abruptly taken down after she published her post without any prior warning or notification. Although the page was restored later, the company offered Ustia no explanation regarding which community standard she was in violation of, or what caused her work to be reinstated.
Egypt: Government’s Decision To Expel Guardian Journalist Is An Attack On Press Freedom
Guardian's Cairo correspondent Ruth Michaelson has been forced by Egyptain authorities to leave the country following her COVID-19 reporting. Her press accreditation has also been revoked, which now prevents her from working in the country. This arbitrary move by the government in Egypt is unacceptable. The Coalition For Women In Journalism demands authorities in Cairo to reconsider their decision and allow Ruth to work freely.
China: Attacks On Press Freedom Intensify After The Coronavirus Outbreak
Beijing has taken some really problematic decisions in a bid to suppress freedom of the press in the country. The Chinese government has been secretive about the state of governance following the COVID-19 outbreak in Wuhan city, which led doctors-turned-whistle blowers, bloggers and citizen journalists to use alternatives for conveying news otherwise censored by the regime.
