France: CFWIJ Condemns The Intimidation Tactics Employed Against Lisa Noyal And Her Colleague Rémi-Kenzo Pagès
Journalists Lisa Noyal and Rémi-Kenzo Pagès were restricted from questioning Mayor of Aubervilliers, Karine Francelet regarding a demolition project in her region of jurisdiction. Francelet’s security team threatened legal action and destroyed the journalists’ property for merely attempting to do their job. This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. The journalists have also been previously discouraged from pursuing the story and the constant attempts to silence the noise around the issue now appears extremely concerning.
France: CFWIJ Denounces The Intimidation From The State Of Venezuela Against Journalist Andreina Mujica
Andreina Mujica, a Franco-Venezuelan journalist was called by the French police against a complaint filed by the counsel of Venezuela on June 8. The complaint against Andreina was filed by Venezuelan counsel Glenna Cabello, who accused the journalist of posting threats to her life in a Facebook post on March 12, 2019. As per Andreina, the Facebook post in question was done by her to demand the release of a journalist Luis Carlos, captured by the state.
France: CFWIJ Is Monitoring The Criminal Complaint Filed By Journalist Isabelle Kersimon
French journalist Isabelle Krismon has filed criminal defamation complaints against unknown people who attacked her on social media. The journalist was following the investigation on a political movement “La Printemps Republican”. Her investigative stories were published on 4, 8, and 25th February in an online magazine, Slate. CFWIJ is following the situation of the defamation charges filed by Isabelle Kersimon.
France: CFWIJ Horrified At The Death Threats Towards Journalist Maty Fall
Journalist Maty Fall, who is originally from Senegal, was sent death threats online while she was covering the event in her home country. The sheer volume of violence threats and abuses that she received caught the attention of local journalist unions and other civil society groups who have extended her support and condemned the campaign against her. Maty has since filed a complaint with the police.

Nadiya Lazzouni received an anonymous letter at her private residence. The letter was replete with sexist and Islamophobic slurs and included death threats. Nadiya believes that she was targeted for her religious visibility and expressed great fear about the implications of the perpetrator's access to her residential address.

Investigative reporter Morgan Large’s car was sabotaged in a manner that could have seriously put her life at risk. This is not the first attack on the journalist either. Within the past year and a half, Morgan endured several such attacks at her workplace as well as her home. Over time, it appears that these malignant efforts to intimidate her into silence have increased in frequency.
France: Court Overturned The Defamation Charges Against Sandra Muller, CFWIJ Welcomes The Decision
A Paris court issued a historic decision, overturning the earlier defamation charges against Sandra Muller on March 31. The court ruled that Sandra Muller should not be punished, having acted in good faith. The French journalist, and pioneer of the #MeToo movement in France, was ordered to pay damages in the defamation case filed against her by her harasser. On September 25, 2019, a French court ordered Sandra to pay 15,000 euros to Éric Brion— a media consultant and former TV executive. Despite Éric having admitted his lewd remarks to Sandra, the court said in its initial verdict that “Miss Sandra Muller surpassed the acceptable limits of freedom of expression and her comments descended into a personal attack”. CFWIJ welcomes the decision to acquit Sandra and believes the judgment will support women who want to speak out about their experience with harassment and misconduct.
France: CFWIJ Is Alarmed By The Violent Attack On France 3 TV’s News Reporter
A France 3 reporter was assaulted in a violent attack in Les Vans. The journalist was in the market covering a rally happening in violation of Covid-19 measures on March 27. The journalist was about to interview someone when a man began to yell at the news team. The man then hit the camera, injuring the nose and chin of the photojournalist. The alleged attacker then tried to dodge law enforcement by changing his clothes but was eventually arrested. CFWIJ condemns the violent attack on the France 3 TV team and offers our support. We believe no journalist should be attacked in the field, and such assaults must be investigated by law enforcement.
France: CFWIJ Condemns The Threats Against Journalist Claire Koç
Journalist Claire Koç accused supporters of Turkish President Erdogan of sending her death threats online. The attacks reportedly came after the publication of Claire’s book that details her experience in France as a Turkish immigrant. Claire has since filed a criminal complaint against the perpetrators. CFWIJ condemns the threats against the journalist and demands French authorities apprehend the assailants.

In a public appeal, 150 women sports journalists denounced the sexism they face in their line of work. The misogynistic culture around sports worldwide fosters the harassment and hate women journalists face in the field. The appeal issued by French women journalists calls for a unified effort to push back against such misconduct. The Coalition For Women In Journalism supports the women sports reporters and their call for reform in the industry. We urge the French authorities to take action against the mistreatment and ensure a fair work environment free from harassment.
