Yemen: Pregnant Journalist Rasha Abdullah Killed In Horrific Car Bombing, Husband Critically Injured
Rasha Abdullah al-Harazi and her unborn child were killed in a horrific car bombing in Aden this afternoon. Her husband, Mahmoud al-Atmi, who was driving her to the hospital when they were targeted, was critically injured. The Coalition For Women In Journalism is horrified at the targeted attack on Rasha and her husband, also a journalist. We denounce the killing and demand an immediate inquiry
Malta: Four Years On, Daphne Caruana Galizia Awaits Justice - CFWIJ Demands Action Against Masterminds, Killers
Four years ago today, on October 16, 2017, Malta’s renowned journalist Daphne Caruana Galiza was assassinated by a powerful car bomb outside her Bidnjia home. Since then, seven men have been arrested or implicated for their involvement in the cold-blooded killing, five of them have entered some sort of plea bargain, and a public inquiry report has held the state responsible. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) has documented the ongoing investigation and trials. We demand legal action against the masterminds, killers and facilitators, of all involved, in the pre-meditated murder. Four years on, we honour the legacy of Malta’s “one-woman WikiLeaks”.
Palestine: CFWIJ Is Horrified At The Killing Of Journalist Reema Saad And Her Family During IDF Bombardment
Several sources in Gaza who spoke to CFWIJ confirm the killing of Palestinian journalist Reema Saad in a bombing. Reema was killed in her apartment alongside her children and husband when Israeli forces attacked civilian residences in the city of Gaza on Tuesday night. Sources who knew Reema, and had worked alongside her also told the CFWIJ that she was four month pregnant at the time. We are both heartbroken and horrified with her loss.
Acceleration of these events resulted after several days of Israeli armed forces targeting Palestinian civilians following the expulsions orders of Palesitinian families from the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood.
United States: CFWIJ Is Horrified By The Killing Of Aviva Okeson-Haberman
Journalist Aviva Okeson-Haberman was found dead in her apartment on Friday, April 23, from what appears to be a gunshot wound. Okeson-Haberman was a young radio journalist cherished by her colleagues and friends. The police are investigating the circumstance around her death.
United States: CFWIJ Is Saddened By The Tragic Demise Of Lynn Murray
Former photo director for “Hearst” and “Conde Nast”, a loving wife for 26 years and mother of two, Lynn Murray was one of the ten victims of the shooting in King's grocery store, Boulder Colorado on March 22. Murray was inside the store on a food delivery run when the shooting began. She was working for Instacart, an app service that people use to get groceries delivered at home. Murray was a founding member of Marie Clair’s U.S.premier issue in 1994 and contributed hard to its success. In her career, Lynn also worked for Cosmopolitan and Glamour magazine. She was energetic and friendly as described with her friends. CFWIJ is appalled by the tragic news of her death. We demand that the state immediately address its gun control laws and take necessary measures to stop the violence.

Two brothers directly implicated in the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia have requested a presidential pardon in exchange for information. Iraq: CFWIJ Demands An In-Depth Investigation Into The Assassination Of The TV Anchor And Journalist Lana Mohammad And Her Family
Northeastern Iraq government spokesman admitted for the first time that Kurdish TV anchor and journalist Lana Mohammad’s and her family’s double murder-suicide in Sulaimaniyah was a planned assassination. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) is devastated to hear about new development in the tragic incident. We demand Iraqi authorities to settle fairly and independently to investigate these brutal killings and find the perpetrators for the murders immediately.
Afghanistan: CFWIJ Is Horrified At The Assassination Of Three Women Media-Workers In Jalalabad.
Three women media-workers were shot by terror outfits in the city. All three victims worked at Enikass Radio and TV. This is the latest attack, in what has now emerged as a pattern, on Afghan women journalists by fundamentalist groups, and has understandably sent shockwaves around the world.

One of the three people accused of Daphne Caruana Galizia's murder pled guilty yesterday. He was swiftly sentenced to fifteen years in prison. His conviction was reportedly lenient because of his cooperation with the security forces involved with the investigation of high-profile cases.
Algeria: CFWIJ Calls For An Immediate Investigation Into The Brutal Murder Of Journalist Tin Hinan Laceb
Prominent Algerian journalist Tin Hinan Laceb, of ENTV’s Amazigh channel (TV4), was reportedly killed by her husband on January 26. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) is horrified by the appalling attack. We demand Algerian authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the murder of Tin Hinan immediately.
Afghanistan: Journalist And Enikas TV Anchor Malalai Maiwand Killed By Islamic State
Malalai Maiwand, an anchor on Enikas Radio and TV in Afghanistan, was killed on Human Rights Day along with her driver, Mohammad Tahir, when the gunmen opened fire on the vehicle in Jalalabad, Nangarhar province. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) condemns this horrific attack against Malalai and demands an immediate investigation into her murder. The brutal killing of the journalist and human rights advocate is a harrowing example of the crackdown on press freedom in Afghanistan.
