Aryee Davis has endured life-threatening messages following two of her publications on Green Coast TV's online news platform. Assigned to the Liberian Legislature, Aryee reported academic fraud involving one of the members of the House of Representatives. Grand Gedeh county representative Alex Grant reportedly submitted fake credentials to the University of Liberia. Aryee covered the story and received vicious threats from supporters of the representative.

Several women journalists face gendered attacks and threats on Twitter after criticizing Prime Minister Imran Khan for his remarks on the rising rates of sexual violence in the country. In a recent interview with an international media outlet, Khan reasserted his misogynistic comments regarding rape in the country, linking the crime to the attire of the survivor.

Hunter’s employer company News24 has decided to take legal action in response to Dlamini’s allegations.

The Edmonton Journal reporter, Lauren Boothby, was targeted online over her coverage about vaccination of Covid_19. The reporter received abusive hate mail after her article on May 15. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) condemns the vicious hate speech targeted at Lauren. We demand Canadian authorities to identify the attacker and apply the necessary sanctions. Journalists are risking their health to report on the pandemic and deserve nothing but the utmost respect for it.
Northern Ireland: CFWIJ Once Again Registers Its Concerns Over Growing Threats Against Patricia Devlin
Award-winning crime reporter Patricia Devlin was again threatened online. Patricia received a very horrific threat against her son via Facebook inbox. The threat mentioned to her son was written as "your baby will suffer very soon from rape very nice". The journalist shared a screenshot on Twitter on May 8 and said, “This is what happens when authorities fail to purpose and hold to account vile creatures using fake accounts to make threats.”
Northern Ireland: CFWIJ Stands In Solidarity With Allison Morris And Aoife Grace Moore For Their Legal Action Against Eoghan Harris
Belfast Telegraph crime reporter Alison Morris and Irish Examiner political correspondent, Aoife Grace Moore have initiated legal action against the former Sunday Independent columnist and ex-senator, Eoghan Harris. The journalist filed for legal action after Mr. Harris revealed himself as one of the operators behind running an anonymous abusive account, “Barbara Pym”. Eoghan admitted last week that he was contributing to the anonymous account which was found to be posting strident and abusive content about the two women journalists. Twitter has suspended the “Barbara Pym” account permanently as well as nine other accounts with linkage to it. Phoenix Law, a law firm based in Belfast is proceeding the legal action on behalf of Aoife Grace Moore and Allison Morris. CFWIJ offers support to both women journalists and stands in solidarity with them. We believe no journalist should ever be subjected to online harassment and threats. Our online spaces need to be safer and free of toxicity. We hope that the legal action would set a precedent against those keyboard warriors who hide behind anonymity.
United States: CFWIJ Condemns The Online Harassment Of Journalist Mara Hvistendahl By Oracle Management
The executive vice-president of tech giant Oracle, Ken Glueck, has repeatedly targeted journalist Mara Hvistendahl after the publication of her investigative articles on the company. In his online posts targeting the journalist, Ken has repeatedly resorted to personal attacks. Mara’s employer publication, The Intercept, recently voiced their support for the journalist in an editorial piece explaining the details of her writing process and Ken Glueck’s retaliatory harassment.
Germany: CFWIJ Condemns The Police Harassment Against Journalist Kim Winkler
Kim Winkler, a photojournalist based in Berlin, was targeted online by police via Twitter on May 3. CFWIJ is dismayed by the gratuitous targeting of the journalist. We demand Berlin police officials to conduct an inquiry into that matter. It is highly unethical for a public security institution to harass journalists, whether online or in the field.
England: CFWIJ Condemns The Vicious Online Trolling Against Marianna Spring
Marianna Spring, an award-winning reporter covering disinformation and social media for BBC News was subjected to incessant online trolling. The journalist faced a barrage of hateful comments for her reporting on the conspiracy theories that were being promoted around the covid19 pandemic. Marianna said that she was bombarded with horrific abuse and threats. CFWIJ condemns this toxic culture of intimidating women journalists online. This dangerous trend has now prevailed all over in our online spaces and has made it hard to engage in civic discourse. We once again urge social media tech giants to come up with some solution to end this pattern of online harassment against women journalists.
Ecuador: CFWIJ Condemns The Xenophobic And Sexist Attacks Against Alondra Santiago
Alondra Santiago, a journalist and political commentator for Café con JJ, faced a barrage of online hate after her comments on President-elect Guillermo Lasso’s first public speech on April 14. The journalist criticized the last part of the speech where Guillermo Lasso implied that he and his wife would be parents of pregnant adolescents. Referencing the ongoing debate to decriminalize abortion in Ecuador, Alondra commented, “We don’t need them to be our parents. We need to be able to decide...They are not pregnant adolescents, they are raped girls and adolescents.” Following her statement, Alondra was targeted by xenophobia and insults. This incident is not the first time Alondra has faced a smear campaign for her views and political commentary. CFWIJ condemns the online trolling against Alondra Santiago and commends her integrity.
