Egypt: Journalist And Filmmaker Sanaa Seif’s Trial Adjourned Until December 15
Journalist and filmmaker Sanaa Seif’s trial has been adjourned until December 15 to allow her lawyers to copy the case file and summon exclusion witnesses. The Coalition For Women In Journalism urges the Egyptian authorities to end this unfounded trial and release the journalist immediately.
Malawi: Women Journalists Have Gathered In Rallies Across Malawi Against Sexual Violence
Hundreds of women journalists have gathered in rallies to denounce misogyny, extending solidarity to victims of sexual harassment and assault in Malawi. Female journalists have called for stringent measures against sexual offenders. The Coalition For Women In Journalism applauds these gestures of unity and supports the demands made by women journalists across Malawi.
United States: Journalist Beth Nakamura Was Harassed By Trump Supporters
Journalist Beth Nakamura was harassed by a group of men while covering a pro-Trump rally in Oregon State Capitol in Salem, Oregon. The Coalition For Women In Journalism condemns these harassments against journalists and urges U.S. authorities to conduct an investigation into the attacks in order to ensure journalists' safety in the field.

Israel: Journalist Bushra Al-Tawil Arbitrarily Detained For The Fifth Time By Israeli Authorities.
Israeli authorities arrested journalist Bushra Al-Tawil yesterday while she was passing through a bridge checkpoint. Without legal grounds, the journalist was apprehended and moved to an undisclosed location. This is the fifth time Bushra has been detained by Israeli authorities. The Coalition For Women In Journalism is dismayed by the constant targeting of women journalists by Israeli authorities.
Uganda: Journalists Pepper-Sprayed And Attacked While Covering An Electoral Rally. CFWIJ Is Deeply Alarmed.
Journalist Sumy Sadruni and others were attacked, pepper-sprayed, and tear-gassed during an electoral rally they were covering in Uganda. The Coalition For Women In Journalism is disturbed by these attacks on journalists in Uganda.

Turkey: CFWIJ Welcomes The Release Of Journalist Müyesser Yildiz By The Court Pending A Trial
The first hearing of the case filed against Odatv Ankara News Director, Müyesser Yıldız, and TELE1 Ankara Representative İsmail Zeki Dükel, was held at the Ankara 26th High Criminal Court on Monday, November 9 2020. Non-commissioned officer Erdal Baran is implicated in the charges for allegedly leaking confidential information to the journalists. After hearing the defence statements presented by the accused media workers, the court decided to release Müyesser Yıldız pending her trial, with an imposed travel ban. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) believes that this decision should be reconsidered and demands Müyesser be acquitted of all charges.
Brasil: NSC TV Reporter Barbara Barbosa Was Assaulted While Covering Covid-19 Lockdown
NSC TV reporter Barbara Barbosa and camera operator Renato Soder were threatened and assaulted while covering the pandemic lockdown in Florianópolis. The Coalition For Women In Journalism is appalled at this attack against journalists and calls on Brazilian authorities to conduct an investigation into the attacks and ensure the journalists' safety in the field.
Türkiye: Tahliye Edilmesi Beklenen Gazeteci Aslıhan Gençay’a, Çıplak Aramaya İtiraz Ettiği İçin Disiplin Cezası Verildi
Dört yıldır tutuklu olan gazeteci Aslıhan Gençay, tahliye öncesi nakledildiği Sivas Kadın Cezaevi’nde zorla çıplak arama yapılmasına itiraz ettiği için disiplin cezası aldı. Gençay, bu disiplin cezası nedeniyle tahliyesinin bir yıl daha uzama ihtimaliyle karşı karşıya. Gazetecilikte Kadın Koalisyonu olarak bu ve benzeri muameleleri kınıyor, Gençay hakkındaki tahliyenin derhal uygulanmasını talep ediyoruz.
Turkey: Journalist Aslihan Gençay Denied Early Release From Prison After She Refused A Strip Search.
Turkish Journalist Aslıhan Gençay has been incarcerated for four years on terror charges. Aslihan was set to be released early for good behaviour, though after refusing a strip search, she has been denied release. As a consequence, she could face another year added to her sentence. The Coalition For Women In Journalism condemns this humiliating request against the journalist and demands Turkish authorities for an immediate release.

Presenter Ola Al-Fares was trolled online by Saudi accounts and caricaturist Fahd Aljubairi for her dissident views. The Coalition For Women In Journalism is appalled by this constant online trolling of women journalists by Saudi accounts.
Türkiye: Cengiz Holding’in Gazeteci Hazal Ocak’a Açtığı Milyonluk Dava Ertelendi
6 Ekim 2019’da Cumhuriyet Gazetesi’nde yazdığı “Boğaz manzaralı lüks müştemilat” yazısı nedeniyle Cengiz Holding Yönetim Kurulu Başkanı Mehmet Cengiz tarafından hakkında dava açılan gazeteci Hazal Ocak ve gazetenin imtiyaz sahibi Alev Coşkun’un dördüncü duruşması bugün İstanbul Anadolu 14. Asliye Hukuk Mahkemesi'nde görüldü. Duruşma mahkemenin dosyayı tekrar inceleme talep etmesiyle 20 Ocak 2021 tarihine ertelendi.
Turkey: Hazal Ocak’s Fourth Hearing Case Over Defamation Charges Postponed To 2021
A lawsuit was filed against Hazal Ocak and the president of Cumhuriyet Foundation, Alev Coşkun, in October 2019 on behalf Cengiz Holdings over allegations of defamation. The lawsuit was in retaliation to Hazal’s article in Cumhuriyet Newspaper titled "Luxury fixture with a view of the Bosphorus", which revealed an illegal construction project of Cengiz Holding and its chairman Mehmet Cengiz. Hazal and Alev face a fine of 1 million Turkish Liras for reputational damage. The fourth hearing was held today in Istanbul’s Anatolia 14th Civil Court of First Instance. However, the trial has been postponed to January 20, 2021.
